Sorry Kids… You Have to Wear the Muzzles to School

Today is the first day of school for 2021 and I sent 2 of my 3 children to school today in muzzles (otherwise known as face masks or face coverings). I’m embarrassed and ashamed to admit that my family was forced to cave to the mask mandate brought on by the Kent County Health Department here in West Michigan. And I know that there are many other families in the exact same situation as mine.

We do not want to muzzle our kids. We know that the teachers and many of the school staff also do not want to be muzzled. Yet here we are… giving in to the orders set forth by the superintendents and school boards (who blame the county health departments). The ‘science and the data’ don’t lie – but the people who claim to base their decisions on ‘science and data’ do lie! Or maybe they just ‘interpret’ the data differently for one reason or another.

What are we the people supposed to do? We pay local property taxes that support the public school systems. We should be able to send our kids to school and not have to deal with them being used as pawns in this ridiculous political debate. And make no mistake about it – the entire mask issue is nothing more than political warfare at this point. Our children are being forced to pay the price and it isn’t fair to them at all.

The Science of Masking Kids at School

The effectiveness of mask-wearing is hardly even debatable anymore, especially for children. The data proves that masks do almost nothing to prevent the spread of COVID!

One of the best articles I’ve seen on this topic to date was written by David Zweig and published recently in the Intelligencer section of New York Magazine. The piece describes in great detail a specific large-scale study on COVID transmission that was published by the CDC and how it differs from all of the other biased ‘data’ that is out there.

The findings from the study prove that pretty much ALL of the nonsense that children had to endure throughout the 2020/2021 school year was largely ineffective at stopping the spread of COVID. Here is a quote from the article…

These findings cast doubt on the impact of many of the most common mitigation measures in American schools. Distancing, hybrid models, classroom barriers, HEPA filters, and, most notably, requiring student masking were each found to not have a statistically significant benefit. In other words, these measures could not be said to be effective.

The (actual) journalist who wrote this piece went a step further than just analyzing the data and the findings – he even contacted several organizations and experts on the topics at hand. Here is another quote from the article…

“But the world has changed, there are real downsides to masking children for this long, with no known end date, and without any clear upside.” She continued, “I’m not aware of any studies that show conclusively that kids wearing masks in schools has any effect on their own morbidity or mortality or on the hospitalization or death rate in the community around them.

Freedom and Liberty are Slowly Disappearing

Slowly but surely, we are losing our freedoms here in America as liberty increasingly fades away. Last Friday, I sent an email to Adam London, the director of the Kent County Health Department, urging him to make the right decision. Perhaps my email reached him too late. Or perhaps he simply chose to ignore the pleas like mine and many others who have been urging the KCHD to NOT mandate masks on children. Here is an exact copy/paste of what I sent to Adam London last Friday…

Subject: please choose liberty and freedom

Hi Adam,

Chalk me up as a vote for NO MASK MANDATE for children in Kent County schools.

“Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…” – The Declaration of Independence

lib·er·ty ˈlibərdē
noun liberty
the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one’s way of life, behavior, or political views.

In my interpretation of liberty, as it relates to the current issue at hand, you (and your peers) are the authority and I (and my family and friends) are the people who have the right to freedom from oppressive restrictions. A mandate to muzzle our children is absolutely an oppressive restriction!

I hope my email finds you well and is not received after the decision has already been made. I fear for the worst (mask mandates) but hope for the best (freedom of choice).

The definition of the word liberty says it all. Once you know and understand that – it’s easy to see how American’s have allowed this COVID debacle to strip us of our liberty and our freedoms. Mask mandates are just one small part of it. As a parent, I’m extremely frustrated and irritated.

I suppose my only hope now is that the public schools that my children attend will at least teach them some accurate history and explain how America once was a free country built on the principles of liberty. My greater hope is that America will one day (hopefully soon) return to those principles and restore freedom as we are entitled to by our founding documents.

  1. So many comments to be made… I don’t know where to start. It’s all wrong – lawful child abuse. And the sheep just blindly follow.
