Hi, I’m Matt – and this is my Rambling Fever blog.
I’m a husband, dad, full-time truck driver, and what I’ve long joked is an “imaginary entrepreneur.”
For more than 20 years, I’ve made a living driving a truck. For about the last 15 years, I’ve also spent my spare time experimenting with blogging, websites, affiliate marketing, digital products, and whatever other internet ideas happen to wander into my head.
Some of those ideas worked. Many didn’t. Most of it has been one long experiment.
Rambling Fever is where all of that ends up.
A Blog About Nothing
The tagline here is “a blog about nothing.”
That’s a small nod to Seinfeld, which was famously described as a show about nothing. But anyone who watched it knows it was never really about nothing. It was about everyday life. Random observations. Small situations that somehow turned into great stories.
That’s the basic idea behind this blog.
Rambling Fever is not built around a single niche. It works more like a small digital newspaper. Different topics live in different sections depending on what I happen to be writing about at the time.
Some articles are about travel. Others are about money, online business experiments, products I like, family life, hobbies, or the occasional opinion about something happening in the world.
In other words, it really is a blog about nothing in particular.
But it is always about something.
Why the Name Rambling Fever?
The name came from two simple ideas.
First, I have always been a big fan of Merle Haggard. One of his songs is called Ramblin’ Fever, and that title always stuck with me.
Second, the word rambling describes blogging pretty well. Talking or writing at length about whatever happens to be on your mind.
Put those together and Rambling Fever felt like a perfect name for a blog.
It also turned out to be the first domain name I ever bought, back when I first started exploring internet business ideas more than a decade ago.
After buying what feels like a mountain of domain names over the years, it is a little funny that I ended up right back where it all started.
Who I Am
I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and I’ve lived in West Michigan almost my entire life.
I’m a college dropout who eventually became a truck driver and then somehow fell into the world of internet business experiments. What started with Googling “how to make money online” turned into years of blogging, WordPress projects, affiliate marketing, and trying different online ideas.
My biggest success online was a WordPress plugin business I co-founded called AmaLinks Pro. My partner handled the coding. I handled the marketing, website, tutorials, and business side. We eventually sold the business in 2022.
Even after trying many different things on the internet, I always seem to come back to the same thing.
Writing.
What You’ll Find Here
Rambling Fever covers a mix of topics, but a few themes show up regularly.
Travel
My family and I spend a lot of time on the road, especially following our kids’ sports tournaments and taking family trips whenever we get the chance.
Money
I occasionally write about investing, personal finance, and the slow process of building wealth over time.
Business Experiments
Over the years I’ve tried dozens of online business ideas. Some failed, some almost worked, and a few actually succeeded.
Products
Sometimes I write about products I genuinely like or find interesting.
Everyday Life
Family life, hobbies, observations, and random thoughts all find their way into the blog too.
Life Outside the Internet
Most of my life is actually pretty normal.
I spend a lot of time with my family, driving kids to practices, traveling for sports tournaments, and taking the occasional family vacation.
My oldest son and I are also serious about disc golf, and we spend a lot of time practicing and competing in PDGA tournaments around Michigan.
I also have a strange curiosity about casino advantage play and blackjack strategy. Not as a profession. Just as one of those weird hobbies that a person ends up going down the rabbit hole with.
So yes, there is probably a truck driver somewhere out there who writes blog posts, plays disc golf tournaments, experiments with internet businesses, and occasionally studies blackjack math.
That would be me.
Why I Keep Blogging
I’ve experimented with video and audio, but neither one ever felt natural to me.
Writing does.
Writing lets me think things through. Rewrite. Ramble a little. Clean up the mess. Say what I actually meant to say.
Rambling Fever gives me a place to do that without forcing everything into one narrow topic.
It’s simply my corner of the internet.
